Laura Thompson Shive, BA, owner of Susquehanna Doulas, LLC, is a trauma-informed birth support professional. Laura is an Evidence Based Birth® Instructor, DONA certified Birth Doula, Certified Childbirth Educator, and Certified Lactation Counselor®. Laura has also completed training and certifications as a Postpartum Doula, in placenta encapsulation, and in cesarean awareness and VBAC advocacy through the International Cesarean Awareness Network (ICAN).
Laura applies her passion for helping families from preconception through the postpartum period, in conjunction with her experiences in education, to improve pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experiences with her clients locally, as well asnationally through her work with Your Birth Experience. On a local level, Laura volunteers at infant loss burials through SHARE of Lancaster, PA and with her daughters at a women and children’s shelter in York, PA. She facilitates the Cesarean Awareness and VBAC Support Group of Harrisburg, PA.
Laura has extensive experience in education and held the position of Director of Education for a Sylvan Learning Center. She helped grow the former online school Free World U from a curriculum resource to an international school serving tens of thousands of users in over 130 countries, and was responsible for securing accreditation.
Laura is working with the founder of Better Birth & Beyond Doula Network to secure nonprofit status and create a network of birth professionals, donors, and families in need in the Harrisburg area.
Laura has been published in Midwifery Today Magazine and in its eBook Birth Stories. Laura received the 2012 Marquis Who’s Who in the World Award and 2014 the Marquis Who’s Who in America Award. In 2017, Laura became an Evidence Based Birth® Instructor after completing intense training on providing families with evidence based care.
Laura is excited to bring the new Evidence Based Birth® Childbirth Class to the greater Baltimore and south central PA areas.
