Leiko Hidaka holds a Master's Degree in Human Settlements and Environment and was working at the United Nations Population Fund when she was contacted to help organize logistics for a DONA Doula Workshop in her city. After learning how women's rights during pregnancy and childbirth are being constantly violated and how a doula could help change this, in 2016 she decided to become a birth doula herself to provide support to other women and advocate for their rights, earning her certification with DONA International and later on as Childbirth Educator certified by the International Childbirth Education Association (ICEA).

In 2017 she joined the International Cesarean Awareness Network (ICAN) as International Coordinator and also leads the local ICAN Chapter of the Dominican Republic, where she is a highly respected and passionate leader for women’s autonomy through evidence based care.

Leiko completed a rigorous training by Evidence Based Birth® in 2018 to become an Evidence Based Birth® Instructor and continue providing tools for women and their families as well as to birth professionals to make a positive change in the birth culture.
