Terrie Watkins CNM(ret) MSN, RN, FACCE is a self-proclaimed “birth junkie” with 50 years’ experience in caring for women and babies during the birth process. After the birth of her 1st child she recognized the need for change in the US maternity care system and became a Labor and Delivery nurse for 28 years. Her “hobby” was teaching childbirth classes, becoming a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator and the recognition of FACCE. She then attended the University of Florida earning an MSN and became certified as a Nurse Midwife. She was privileged to attend 2389 births in that capacity and “retired” in 2013 continuing to teach aspiring midwifery students and helping in a local prenatal clinic. Her particular passion is reducing the C/Section rate which has been increasing exponentially without statistical evidence of improved outcomes. She actually presented this topic at several national conferences, including Lamaze and ACNM. Terrie was just honored to become an Evidence Based Birth Instructor in 2017 and is looking forward to the challenging opportunity to continue utilizing those many years and experiences to improve perinatal outcomes in our nation.
